The increased number of Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) and Cholera cases in many regions of Afghanistan, with most cases being reported from Kabul has urged many partners including the international partners such as WHO and UNICEF to step in and take immediate action to combat the ongoing threat.
Just for Afghan Capacity and Knowledge (JACK) Organization has the pride to partner with UNICEF in establishing Integrated Emergency Response Teams (IERT) and Cholera Treatment Centers (CTC) in Kabul hotspot areas and its districts to contribute in the joint fight against AWD/Cholera in the country. AWD/cholera project has been launched successfully and the following achievements have been obtained since the onset of the project in May 2022.
1. 11 IERTs established and deployed in cholera hotspots such as Kabul city (3 teams), Sarobi (2 teams), Bagrami (1 team), Qarabagh (1 team), Farza (1 team), Shakardara (1 team), Paghman (1 team) and Dehsabz (1 team);
2. Eight Cholera Treatment Centers (CTCs) have been established in Qarabagh, Shakardara, Paghman, Sarobi, Bagrami, Ahmah Shah baba meena, Farza and Deh Sabz;
1. As many as 10,530 people have received preventive messages about AWD/Cholera;
2. 640 children and 150 adults treated for AWD and dehydration;
3. 200 households visited by IERTs to promote hygiene and sanitation;
4. 50 Oral Rehydration Points (ORPs) established in 30 HFs located in the hotspots;
5. As many as 200 children screened for malnutrition by IERT teams. Of them, 10 children who were suffering from severe acute malnutrition with MUAC less than 11.5 cm referred to OPD SAM services;
